Now many of you have heard of the words “Islam”, “Muslim”, “Allah” either on the T.V or read it in the news paper. Considering that its the fastest growing religion in the world and 1 in 5 people are Muslims. Its quite ironic that people don’t actually know the correct meanings of the word. This article attempts to explain that in a clear way and give a better understanding of what the Islamic faith is and who the Muslim people are.

The word “Islam” comes from the route word SLM in Arabic. It has a three fold meaning which are peace, purity and Submission to the will of the one God.

The word “Muslim” is the doer of the word Islam. So a Muslims is one who has attained peace by purifying themselves and submitting to the will of the one true God and creator. To purify oneself in all senses of the word. Purifying your wealth by earning lawful money. Purify your body from impurities. Purify your soul by doing prayer and meditation. Their are many ways of purification. To submit to the will of would be to follow the laws that have been sent to us the Gods prophets and messengers. In doing all of this, God willing you will find peace.

The word “Allah” in Arabic literally means The One God. Many people have the misconception that Muslims believe in a different God to that of the Christians and the Jews. But in actual fact the word used by the Prophet Jesus was Alah. As Aramaic is the sister language to Arabic. Arabic being the language the Prophet Muhammad used and also the language of the Quran.

Many people have the misconception today that all Muslims are terrorists because of what they see in the media. This is also propaganda and far from the truth. In actual fact the majority of Muslims are very peaceful. Its is completely against Islam and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad to kill innocent people. In fact if a Muslim was to kill an innocent human being it would be like he killed the whole of humanity. It would be bad to even kill innocent animals and insects for no good reason like food requirements or your life/health is at risk.

As you can see the word Islam means peace so for it to be un peaceful would be contradictory. Please do more research and find out what Islam is really all about. Find out about the true teachings of Islam and what they believe in.
